The collection consists of a sheaf of manuscript poems Harbaugh wrote during his early years in Ohio (most dated between 16 April and 13 September 1837 in Lodi and Harrisville), and a printed hymn, "Centenary Hymn," written while he was pastor of the First German Reformed Church.

Henry Harbaugh was a Pennsylvania German clergyman, poet, and hymn writer. Born near Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pa., he left for eastern Ohio on 4 August 1836 to get an education while working in carpentry. He lived in Massilon, Stark County, Ohio until enrolling in Marshall College, Mercersburg, Pa. in November 1840. He completed his seminary studies in fall 1843 and accepted his first calling in Lewisburg, Pa. in December 1843 where he was ordained on 24 January 1844. ...
